About PDO Thread Lifts
PDO threads are sutures made of a biocompatible material called Polydioxanone (PDO), which have been used in medical operations for more than 30 years. Although PDO threads are not new to the medical industry, the latest innovation is their use in cosmetic procedures. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Mary Pentel uses PDO threads to lift and tighten sagging skin for a nonsurgical facelift; this is known as the PDO thread lift or simply thread lift. These sutures are inserted into the skin to elevate crepey tissue in the upper, mid, or lower face. There are actually many different kinds of PDO thread, and they come in different lengths, thicknesses, and tensile strengths. There are also two main categories of thread: barbed and non-barbed. All of them can be customized to meet your specific needs. Reach out to Dermatology Southeast in Jacksonville, FL to learn more.

Candidates for a PDO Thread lift
A PDO thread lift is a great treatment option for men and women who wish to enhance their appearance without the use of dermal fillers or a surgical facelift. If you have mild to moderate skin laxity in your face, neck, or jowls due to advanced age, excessive weight loss, or genetics, then a thread lift may correct these concerns without any downtime. There are different kinds of threads — straight, twisted, and barbed — all of which are used to provide tension and lift to sagging areas of the face. The specific PDO thread used for your nonsurgical facelift with depend on your unique needs and problem areas.
PDO Thread Lift Treatment
Once Dr. Pentel has performed a full facial exam and created your unique treatment plan, we'll schedule your PDO thread lift at Dermatology Southeast. A PDO thread lift is an outpatient procedure and generally takes about 15 minutes per treatment area. Once we've cleaned and numbed the target areas, Dr. Pentel will insert the PDO threads one at a time, using a crosshatching technique, until all the threads have been inserted.
Over time, the body reacts to these sutures by producing collagen. In a sense, it builds a new tendon of collagen that offers a natural lift to the skin. The dissolvable sutures will gradually degrade over a period of 4 - 6 months but will provide results that last for 1 – 3 years. Many patients report that a PDO thread lift feels similar to getting a dermal filler. Once your procedure is complete, you're free to go home.
After Your appointment
A huge benefit to a PDO thread lift is that there is no downtime or restrictions on activity. This is what makes it one of our most popular procedures, as may patients come by during their lunch break to get this treatment done and can return to their day without missing a beat. Since a thread lift is a simple and easy procedure, there is little to no adverse risk of scarring, severe bruising, or other complications often associated with a surgical facelift. A PDO thread lift provides stunning, long-lasting results, creates instant lift, stimulates collagen production over time, and tightens the designated areas to attain a smooth, natural-looking contour.
