What is Sculptra?
Volume loss happens during the natural aging process, especially in the face as the cheeks become flat and hollow. To treat volume loss, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Mary Pentel uses Sculptra Aesthetic, a poly-L-lactic acid injectable dermal filler that allows for fuller and longer-lasting volume in the cheeks. In addition to improving the contour of the mid-face, Sculptra can decrease the look of fine to deep wrinkles and lines, including the nasolabial folds (also known as laugh or smile lines) that start at the sides of the nose and extend to the outer corners of the mouth. With a unique gel formula approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Sculptra can increase the natural collagen production in your body, so even if you stop treatments, your skin will still be healthier compared to before treatments. Is sculptra right for me?
Sculptra is ideal for anyone who wants to add volume to their cheeks without surgery. Some candidates may have naturally thin cheeks, while others have experienced volume loss with age. Sculptra can also be used to fill fine to severe dermal concerns, such as chin wrinkles, marionette lines, and nasolabial folds. Since Sculptra increases the natural production of collagen, many patients see an improvement in the overall health and appearance of their skin.
how is sculptra administered?
After your consultation to determine your custom treatment plan, we'll perform your injections in one of our private MedSpa rooms. Your injector may use a numbing cream or local anesthetic before sterilizing and marking the injection sites. As soon as you're ready, we'll inject the filler into the deeper layers of the skin at the chosen areas. For longer-lasting results, Dr. Pentel suggests a series of four treatments that are each scheduled around three weeks apart.
What happens after my treatment?
Following your appointment, you may experience mild to moderate redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection site, but these side effects should resolve on their own in a few days. For faster healing, you can apply cold packs to the injected areas. You should limit UV exposure after your treatment and always use sunscreen. Most patients will see clear improvements immediately following their Sculptra injections with final results developing over 3 – 5 months as the natural production of collagen strengthens your skin. If Sculptra is performed as a series of injections over the course of 3 – 4 months, results may last up to two years.
