What Is XEOMIN?
Although you may have smiled, frowned, laughed, and made other expressions without worrying about the lasting effects in earlier years, you may now notice that the facial wrinkles created by these expressions no longer disappear after your face relaxes. These lines are actually called dynamic wrinkles and occur when the facial muscle stays contracted from overuse, forming an etched line in the overlying skin. XEOMIN is an injectable wrinkle relaxer, like BOTOX, that temporarily relaxes the treated facial muscle with purified botulinum toxin type A so that these dynamic wrinkles look smoother and softer. At Dermatology Southeast in Jacksonville, FL, we provide a number of aesthetic and dermatology services, including XEOMIN wrinkle relaxing treatments. Schedule a consultation with skilled dermatologist Dr. Mary Pentel for more information.

Is xeomin right for me?
XEOMIN can decrease the appearance of dynamic facial wrinkles, such as frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal lines on the forehead, Crow's feet in the outer corners of the eyes, and smile lines. XEOMIN is best if you're in good general health, not pregnant, and have never had an allergic reaction to other botulinum products, like BOTOX. During your consultation, make sure to disclose your medical history, current medications, and your cosmetic goals so that Dr. Pentel can personalize a XEOMIN treatment plan that is specific to your needs.
how is xeomin administered?
XEOMIN injections usually take less than 30 minutes and can be completed in one of our procedure rooms immediately following your consultation. We'll clean and sterilized the targeted treatment area before gently injecting XEOMIN with a fine-gauge needle. The procedure is fast and generally doesn't cause great discomfort, so local anesthesia is not required but can be requested during your consultation. We'll apply pressure and cold compresses to the injection area to stop any minor bleeding before you leave.
What happens after my treatment?
You can leave our office immediately after your XEOMIN treatment and resume your daily activities; however, you should avoid strenuous activities for at least one day. We recommend that you sleep in a slightly elevated position and use cold compresses as needed to speed recovery and results. For a few days following a XEOMIN injection, you may experience some bruising, swelling, or redness near the treated areas, but this should heal on its own and can easily be concealed with makeup. Many patients notice visible improvements 3 – 4 days following their XEOMIN injection that last approximately three months. We can arrange touch-up appointments at Dermatology Southeast to maintain your results.
