What is skin cancer?
Skin cancer can be an intimidating word, but for patients who have been diagnosed with skin cancer, there are several treatment options available. At Dermatology Southeast, we offer Mohs surgery and superficial radiation therapy (SRT) for safe, effective treatment of various skin cancers. In addition, we also perform destruction or ablation of benign tumors and use intense-pulse light therapy (IPL) to help restore the skin's appearance after the removal of benign or malignant lesions. There are several types of skin cancer, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. For this reason, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Mary Pentel will conduct a full skin analysis to create the most appropriate treatment plan for you.

Candidates for skin cancer treatment
People who have been recently diagnosed with dermal cancer or suspect abnormal changes in their skin are usually ideal candidates for skin cancer treatment. The first step in receiving the personalized care you need is to set up a comprehensive skin assessment with Dr. Pentel. During this exam, she can review your medical history and determine the best method for removing cancerous skin tissue. In addition, she can also examine other areas and skin lesions on your body to make sure there isn't any other cause for concern.
Treatment options for skin cancer
Skin cancer treatment is a highly customized process. Solutions may include but are not limited to Mohs surgery, superficial radiation therapy (SRT), or destruction via electrocautery or cryotherapy. Dr. Pentel also often couples intense-pulse light therapy (IPL) with skin cancer treatment to rejuvenate the skin's appearance after benign, premalignant, or malignant tissue has been removed. During your initial consultation, Dr. Pentel can review the benefits and limitations of each procedure and recommend which therapy she thinks is best for you.
SUPERFICIAL RADIATION THERAPY
One of the newest innovations for non-melanoma skin cancer treatment is superficial radiation therapy (SRT). Our team at Dermatology Southeast is thrilled to feature the SRT-100 Vision™. This device uses low-level x-ray energy to target and destroy non-melanoma skin cancer cells. It can also be used for keloids. This device has many benefits. It is able to target cancer cells with more accuracy, and the intensity of the waves can be modified based on your treatment progress over time. The SRT-100 Vision has a proven track record of effectiveness.
