about Laser Tattoo Removal
There may be a number of reasons why you no longer want your tattoo. Perhaps it represents a painful memory, or maybe it has faded over time and doesn't look as vibrant as it used to. No matter the reason, advances in tattoo removal technology have made it possible to lighten and potentially eliminate unwanted tattoos altogether. At Dermatology Southeast, seasoned dermatologist Dr. Mary Pentel performs tattoo removal using sophisticated laser systems. Our technologies include PicoWay® and StarWalker® by Fontana. These laser platforms are safe and effective for all skin types and require fewer treatments than other systems on the cosmetic market. If you're interested in learning more, call our office in Jacksonville, FL to set up a consultation with Dr. Pentel today. We look forward to serving you.

Candidates for Laser tattoo removal
Ideal candidates for laser tattoo removal:
- Have a strong immune system. This helps the body’s ability to dispose of the broken down ink properties.
- Are non-smokers or are willing to quit for a short period of time to boost the effectiveness of the treatment.
- Have a significant contrast between the color of the ink and their skin tone. The greater the contrast, the greater the result.
- Have tattoos that are several years old. The older a tattoo is, the better it will respond to treatment.
Laser Tattoo Removal Treatment
Once Dr. Pentel determines whether your skin is ideal for tattoo removal, we'll prep the treatment area by deep cleaning the skin and applying a numbing cream to provide optimal comfort. Dr. Pentel will then pass the selected laser handpiece (PicoWay or StarWalker) over the surface of the skin as it releases pulsing laser energy. The treatment time varies depending on the size and type of tattoo. In some situations, a tattoo may require multiple sessions before you see noticeable results. We'll discuss all of this with you during your initial consultation.
after your appointment
At the end of each treatment, we'll apply a topical cream to the treated skin, along with bandages to protect it. You may experience redness, sensitivity, and swelling. You might also feel like you have a sunburn followed by slight scabbing. It's important to follow all aftercare instructions provided by our office to aid in the best results possible. Once the treatment site heals, you can schedule your next laser session. Appointments typically will not be scheduled closer than 4 – 7 weeks of each other.
