Candidates for PRP therapy
Women and men who want to promote new tissue or hair growth are usually the best candidates for PRP therapy. Since it's a natural method for stimulating collagen production and hair growth, there are no adverse effects or allergic reactions associated with this procedure. Although PRP therapy can provide stunning outcomes, it's important to have realistic expectations. This is why we encourage all of our patients to set up a private consultation with Dr. Pentel prior to any treatment so she can help answer all of your questions. If you have any underlying skin conditions or blood disorders, PRP therapy is not recommended.
Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatment
Once you're comfortably seated in one of our private treatment rooms, we'll draw a small amount of blood from one of your arms and place it in a centrifuge. Usually, we remove about one vial of blood. After approximately 15 minutes in the centrifuge, the components of the blood separate and are then ready for injection. We will place the plasma into a syringe and inject it into the predetermined locations. This part of the process usually only takes about five minutes but can vary from patient to patient.
after your appointment
PRP therapy naturally promotes the production of collagen and elastin to reveal youthful-looking skin and can also stimulate new hair growth for those with thinning hair. You can expect the treatment sites to appear a little red following your procedure, as some traces of red blood cells may make it into the injection. You can use a cold compress on the injection site(s) to reduce discomfort and swelling. Dr. Pentel generally recommends multiple treatments to achieve optimal results.
