What is Cryotherapy?
When your body begins to feel worn down and exhausted, cryotherapy can be an incredible way to revitalize your muscles and restore your livelihood. Perhaps best known because of its adoption by professional athletes, this treatment makes use of intensely cold temperatures in order to get your body back on the right track. At Dermatology Southeast, we make full use of FROZEN C technology, the coldest concise cryotherapy device on the market. Dr. Mary Pentel and Dr. Ivette Sosa Seda are highly experienced in utilizing this technology in order to deliver temperatures of -78ºC safely, effectively, and precisely to affected areas of the body. We invite patients in Jacksonville, FL to visit our practice to experience this advanced treatment for themselves.

Is Cryotherapy Right for Me?
In general, most patients are qualified to undergo cryotherapy. However, as with most treatments, there are a few caveats. We do not typically recommend cryotherapy for those who are pregnant, have a pacemaker, are undergoing chemotherapy, or have been deemed unfit for exercise. Additionally, men and women who have been diagnosed with the following conditions should not receive cryotherapy:
- Raynaud's disease
- Cold-activated asthma
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Heart conditions
- Cold allergies
- Pulmonary vein disorder (PVD)
- Hypotension
- Hypothyroidism
How Does Cryotherapy Work?
Before you can undergo the treatment, our staff will perform a brief consultation in which they will take a look at your medical history and assess your blood pressure to ensure you are eligible for cryotherapy. At this point, you will be given a robe, gloves, socks, and slippers before being led into one of our FROZEN C cryosaunas. Once inside the cryosauna, you will be asked to disrobe so the treatment can begin. The intense cold created during cryotherapy triggers the Bohr's Effect & Hunting Response, which has been known to reenergize the muscles throughout the body. This increases blood flow, as well as creates additional oxygen to reinvigorate the damaged tissues. It has proven to be able to reduce inflammation, shorten downtime after a procedure, smooth skin tone and texture, and eliminate large pores. Cryotherapy can be performed as a standalone procedure or to enhance the results of other services, including microneedling, injections, laser tattoo removal, and more.
What Results Can I Expect from Cryotherapy?
There is no downtime or recovery associated with cryotherapy. Patients are free to return to their daily life as soon as the treatment has ended. This — combined with its incredibly brief sessions — makes it an easy appointment to schedule during the smallest windows of availability. There is no set schedule for cryotherapy sessions. While some patients choose to have the treatment performed as it is needed, others elect for regularly scheduled maintenance appointments. This is entirely up to the patient to decide how they feel they should proceed, but our staff is always willing to give a recommendation. Typically, the results of cryotherapy are felt immediately after the conclusion of the treatment. Most patients feel an immediate burst of energy before they've even left our practice.
